If you expect ScandalAnt to say Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe, Baz Luhrmann or Hugh Jackman, then you’re probably in the majority. You’re also wrong!
Way down in 47th spot on Forbes’ 2009 ‘Celebrity 100’ power list are enduring rockers AC/DC, with earnings over the past 12 months estimated at more than $AU75 million.
The earnings windfall for "Acka Dacka" came after releasing a new album Black Ice, embarking on a lengthy tour and even launching a new video game.
The only other Australian name that made the list this year is Nicole Kidman, in 74th spot, with relatively paltry estimated earnings of just over $AU11.2 million.
Australia, Kidman’s much-hyped reunion with director Baz Luhrmann – after their massive success with Moulin Rouge - wasn't a blockbuster but did bring in $AU264 million at the box office.
“Three-quarters of those tickets were sold outside of the US, proving Kidman is still an international draw,” Forbes notes.
The survey is based on income over the past 12 months as well as web references, press and broadcast mentions and major magazine cover appearances.
Angelina Jolie is the biggest winner in the list, with estimated earnings of $AU33 million but enough media clippings to dethrone TV talkshow queen Oprah Winfrey, who earned $AU335 million.
Madonna came in at third, with a $AU134 million pay packet, followed by Beyonce Knowles, with $AU106 and freak golfer Tiger Woods rounding off the fifth position with around the same earnings as Madonna.
Britney Spears came in at 13th with nearly $AU44 million in new wealth, Jolie’s other half Brad Pitt took 9th spot with an estimated $AU35 million in earnings.
Miley Cyrus made it to number 29 with $AU31.2 million, while The Jonas Brothers earned roughly the same but ranked 60th.
