Katy Perry is without doubt popular with Aussie fans, but news the singer’s trying to force a young Australian businesswoman to cease trading under her birth name – Katie Perry – may end up being bad move.Katie Perry, a Sydney-based fashion designed said that when she collected her mail earlier this month, she had a 30-page letter from Queensland patent and trade mark legal firm Fisher Adams Kelly, representing Katheryn Hudson (Katy Perry’s real name).
"The letter asked me stop using my trademark, stop using any advertising material bearing my name and sign an attached letter or face legal proceedings," the designer told ScandalAnt.
But if public sentiment is anything to go by, the amount of support funnelling into Katie Perry's website, may signal danger disaster for the planned Australian tour of American Perry.
"I'm grateful and support I've been receiving over this issue. It’s made me feel stronger," the Australian Perry said.
The legal move could change the public’s perception of the 'I Kissed A Girl’ singer, from quirky pop star to bully, with potential backlash when she tours Australia in August.
"I really felt like I was being intimidated and bullied into signing everything away,” Katie Perry said.
"I love my business and I'll fight to keep it. I'm not trying to become a singer and I’m not pretending to be her.
“This is my income, it's my livelihood and passion and a my contractors are also relying on me."
ScandalAnt contacted Fisher Adams Kelly to get the low down, but was told by the receptionist that no one is commenting on the matter due to “client confidentiality and privilege”.

I think Katy Perry has no right to make that designer change her name. She isn't a singer trying to be Katy, so why does it matter! I think it is stupid she would even bring it up!

This article makes no sense. Is there a reason Australian Katie Perry is being told she can't use this name? Is it her real name? If it is, what right would American Katy Perry have to tell her to stop using it? More information is definitely needed before I can commit to a response.

If I were the day trader Katy Perry, I'd probably go by the name Kate Perry, only because to share a name with a no talent Diva would be an embarrassment. (Kind of like the Character Michael Bolton from Office space.) Actually, why should day trader Katy Perry change her name, Diva Katy Perry is the one that sucks!
I heard of an engineer named Michael Jackson (I kid you not.) Will the Jackson family sue to prevent this guy from using his own name?
Same thing with this kid I went to school with. His name was Guy Lumbardo. Will he be next?
