The Shore Thing Posted by Music 18 November, 2009 - 3:43 PM

Review
Entering into its 5th year on the New Years Eve circuit, Bondi's "Shore Thing" has become a must have for those seeking a little more from their NYE experience in Sydney than just pretty lights in the sky above the harbour. NYE 2010 was no exception, with the line up of Danny Tenaglia, Roger Sanchez and Carl Cox not even the ominous looking clouds over the horizon could have stopped this juggernaut of a party.
On the approach down the hill to Sydney's most famous beach the anticipation of NYE fills the air. The reality of a night to remember begins to settle in the minds of the masses making their way to the gates. The atmosphere was as lively as any major festival you could imagine, and with only 6 hours to play with the crowd was sure to make the most of it whilst they could.
Sanchez kicked off the night at his blistering best, proving once again why he is regarded as a powerhouse DJ, before handing over to (a lesser known but equally enthralling) Danny Tenaglia whose impressive set paused only briefly to bring in the New Year with a bang. Though one could only hope there was some sort of fireworks "malfunction" to explain the poor showing of fire and lights in the sky come midnight – it certainly didn't put a dampener on the crowd's intentions to get down and dirty and as Tenaglia fired back up the party continued.
The tag of "nicest guy in dance music" only goes a short way in describing what was to follow...
How Carl Cox goes about his business is nothing short of genius, not only was the set flawless but the performance impeccable, and like all great performers gave the audience the sense that there was nowhere else in the world he wanted to be right now but playing for them.
Highlight
Quite simply Carl Cox was amazing. There is something truly mesmerizing in watching an artist not only at the top of their game, but also loving every minute of it. This was more than evident as the smile on his face could be seen and felt from even the farthest hotdog stall.
Lowlight
If we had any gripes it was probably with the DJ schedule. It proved a bit of a challenge trying to check out all the acts you'd want to see.

We may have different way of celebrating the New Years Eve but in whatever way, have a great New Years party without needing a lot of cash now. Thanksgiving and Christmas bearable is that we get to erase the horrible memories of them on New Years. However, not all New Years Eve parties are going to be as grand as the attendees would like â because everyone just blew all their cash on buying presents for the various numbskulls that they commiserate with
