Ellen DeGeneres has become the latest judge to jump off the now sinking ship that is American Idol. The comedian joined the judging panel last season to bring new life to the show after Simon Cowell announced he was leaving to bring 'X Factor' to the US.

Ellen released the following statement, "A couple months ago, I let FOX and the "American Idol" producers know that this didn't feel like the right fit for me..... It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for..... it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings.”

Jessica Simpson is the latest rumoured celeb to be joining the judging panel, but is it too late to save American Idol’s 10th season?
