The Brisbane City Council wants as many residents to stay off the roads as possible. Lord Mayor Campbell Newman said his first priority in the clean up is to get all main roads open. Anna Bligh is making all buses and trains free until the 21st of January.

Volunteering, Donating & Brisbane's Big Clean Up

Lord Mayor Campbell Newman is getting Brisbane ready for it's biggest clean up ever. He is encouraging people to first do all they can for their friends and family affected by the floods and then join the official clean up team.

VOLUNTEER MEETING POINTS - DAILY FROM SATURDAY 15 JANUARY
Wanna help in Brisbane's biggest clean up ever? Meet at one of the below spots daily from Saturday 15 January at 7am for the morning shift or 12.30pm for the afternoon shift. 14-17 year olds welcome but must be with their legal guardian.

:: Mt Cootha Botanic Gardens
:: McGregor State High School (please park at Eight Mile Plains bus station and catch shuttle bus)

Please come with your protective gear, sunscreen, insect repellant, shovels, brooms, food and water- be self sufficient.

Electricity

Thousands of homes are currently without power. Energex is doing all they can to restore power to these homes. Under Queensland law, home owners whose power has been disconnected by Energex due to flood damage must have an inspection by a licensed electrical contractor before it can be reconnected.
